03 — Prototype Development
Turn a concept into something you can test.
Develop, print and refine your idea through practical iterations — so you can hold it, test it and improve it.

Overview
What this involves
We start by reviewing your concept and what the prototype needs to prove — form, fit, function or appearance. From there we develop the design, print it and review the result with you.
Testing usually reveals improvements. Each revision builds on what was learned from the last.
Design work and the number of iterations are scoped in your quote, so you know what is included before work begins.
Example applications
- Fit and form prototypes
- Product development components
- Prototype assemblies
- Presentation models
- Ergonomic and handling tests
What to send us
- A description, sketch or existing model of your concept
- What the prototype needs to demonstrate
- Key dimensions or parts it must fit with
- Material or appearance preferences
- Timeline and any milestones
Not sure about some of these? Tell us what you know and we will work through the rest together.
Process
A simple project process
- 01
Review the concept.
We discuss the idea and what the prototype must prove.
- 02
Develop the design.
We prepare a printable design within the agreed scope.
- 03
Print and test.
You receive a physical prototype to evaluate.
- 04
Revise and refine.
Agreed iterations improve the design.
FAQs
Common questions
I only have a sketch. Is that enough?
Yes. Many projects begin with a sketch or description. Design work is quoted based on what is needed.
How many revisions are included?
This is agreed in your quote. Additional iterations can be quoted as the project develops.
Can a prototype move into production?
Once a design is approved, it can move into batch manufacturing if 3D printing suits the quantity and application.
